Chapter Fourteen

Sienna

I pull out of the parking spot and onto the road. Glancing in my rearview mirror, I immediately notice a white car with really dark tinted windows. Could that be? No. I'm being paranoid. That's it. It's all in my head. That guy has to be long gone by now.

"Speak to me A Stór. I need to hear you." Cal sounds a bit short.

"I'm okay. Just paranoid." Am I though? A grown man just cornered me at a job interview. How did he even know I would be there?

"Do you think someone is followin' ya?" Cal asks cooly. I don't understand how he's so level-headed about all of this. It's terrifying to me.

"I don't know." Which isn't a lie. I keep glancing up at that white car behind me. I can't really see anything other than an outline of a person through the windshield. Fuck.

"If you think you're being followed, turn down the next road to your left."

"I don't know where that road leads."

"Trust me an' take it." Cal demands. It wasn't a question.

"Cal, you don't know where I am. How do you know what road this is?" My knuckles are turning white from how hard I'm gripping the steering wheel.

"I know there's a damn good chance it'll loop ya back onto the road you're on now. Take the next left." He wasn't asking anymore.

"Okay." I do as I'm told. Getting into the turn lane. That damn car follows me. Okay. Maybe they just need to go somewhere down this road too? Don't be paranoid. Don't panic. It won't help anything right now.

"Did it get in the turn lane with ya?" Cal asks.

"Yes." It's the only word I could muster.

"Feck. Okay. Do what we planned. Circle back to the main road and get to Lenox’s. I will meet ya there." He sounds mad. Mad at the man in the car behind me. Is he even a real detective? Wouldn't they know how to tail people better than this?

"Okay." I pull onto the road and look for the next left turn. Maybe three hundred feet anyway from me there's a red light with a left turn lane. That's it. I throw on my turn signal and get in the turn lane.

The white car does the same.

Fuck me sideways.

"I'm turning left now. That car is still behind me, Cal. I'm freaking out."

"Sienna, listen to me. Take that fear and swallow it for now. If ye panic, you'll find yourself in more trouble than it's worth. Keep it together until you're in my arms. Okay?" His voice is stern.

"Okay," I say in almost a whisper. Taking the turn, I keep my eyes on the road ahead of me. I need to find another left turn. Where the fuck am I? I know I'm probably going under the speed limit. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!

"Do ya see another left?" Cal asks.

"Not yet. I'm looking." A stop sign just up ahead catches my eye. Finally. "I think I found one."

"Take it. Don't give a signal. Just go," Cal instructs.
